MEDICATIONS FOR OVERACTIVE BLADDER

Pharmacological treatments are offered to patients who, despite conservative therapy, still have symptoms of OAB. The treatment aims to block the transmission of the nerve stimulation to the muscarinic receptor within the muscle of the bladder thus inhibiting the induction of its contraction. These medications are appropriately called antimuscarinics. The commonly used oral medications are:

  • Darifenacin (Enablex) 7.5 to 15 mgs/day

  • Vesicare 5-10 mgs/day

  • Detrol LA 4 mgs/day

  • Sanctura  mgs twice/day

  • Ditropan XL 5, 10, 15 mgs/day

  • In addition, Oxytrol patch is available.

  • Botulinum Toxin (Botox)
